The Cafe

There's more to this gay hangout, which has been happily ensconced on bohemian Broughton Street since 1986, than meets the eye. Facing the street itself is a light, airy cafe, - the sort of place where you could (and many do) relax and read the papers for an afternoon. But keep walking through the building and you'll find yourself in a busy L-shaped and rather more homely room to the rear.

Just below the Blue Moon in the basement is Deep Blue, an altogether trendier, ice-blue lit affair, serving drinks until 1am, but by now you'll have been intercepted and received an effusive welcome, so relax and peruse the menu. It's good, solid familiar stuff: nachos, falafel and potato wedges make up the starters, with burgers, chilli con carne and bangers and mash sitting substantially amongst the mains. It's as good and as simple as it sounds - the nachos are piled high, coated in melted cheese and mined with jalapenos, and the bangers are huge and hearty and served on a thick bed of mash with red wine and onion gravy.
